**The MIT Science Policy Initiative (SPI) is coordinating the twelfth annual Executive Visit Days (ExVD) on Sunday, October 22nd through Tuesday, October 24th, 2023 ***IN-PERSON*** in Washington, D.C.**

The MIT Science Policy Initiative coordinates Executive Visit Days (ExVD) each fall. Students meet with Executive Agencies in Washington, D.C. to discuss science and technology policy issues, providing an excellent opportunity for networking and learning about career paths in government and think tanks. Policy makers from federal and non-governmental organizations, such as the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institute for Standards and Technology, teach participants about current organizational goals, funding concerns, and policy priorities. The program's aim is to underscore the long-term importance of science, engineering, technology, and innovation that support the nation’s economic growth and global competitiveness.

Participants are required to be active in the preparation for the ExVD trip. Each participant will be asked to contribute to the planning of the ExVD. Full participation is expected (include planning meetings) and non-compliance may lead to loss of reimbursement. Please note that selected participants must have a valid passport and be willing to share personal details for security clearance.

What you will gain:
- A broad understanding of the U.S. science and technology policy ecosystem
- Small group interactions with prominent leaders in government
- The chance to connect with a like-minded cohort

What is expected:
- Initial call to meet the cohort and discuss expectations
- Full attendance of the assigned events. We will only assign you to events that you are available for, but you must attend these events.

- You must participate in writing up the final trip report. Each attendee will be expected to contribute 1-2 paragraphs to summarize our meetings.

Trip Support

SPI will support you with: group accommodation for 2 nights (nights of October 22nd and 23rd), one group dinner, and travel expenses (train or flight and metro) reimbursed up to $250.

If you need funding for childcare to be able to participate in this trip, please get in touch with the SPI board (spi-exec@mit.edu).
